Chapter One Impact Report 2023-24 - Flipbook - Page 11
OUR PILOT PROGRAMMES
This report focuses on the impact of our established flagship
Online Reading Volunteers Programme. Chapter One is piloting
and developing other programmes that also tackle the reading
gap and foster reading for pleasure. We will publish data on the
impact of these pilots in future impact reports.
GLOBAL FREE LIBRARY
Our Global Free Library offers an online collection of stories
and materials that celebrate the world’s diversity. To do this,
we commission authors and illustrators from around the globe
to create original stories, told in their authentic voices, that will
inspire the children and adults who read them.
EARLY LITERACY INTERVENTION PROGRAMME
Our Early Literacy Intervention (ELI) Programme provides
one-to-one, 7-minute phonics sessions 3-5 times a week for
children in Reception and Year 1 who are not on track with
whole class phonics teaching. Using a proprietary technology
tool, a trained Early Literacy Interventionist works individually
with target children to help them develop their phonics skills,
including reading decodable texts. These sessions can be
aligned with any DfE approved systematic, synthetic phonics
(SSP) scheme and are designed to close gaps and reinforce
whole-class phonics teaching.
In 2023-24 three schools participated in the ELI Programme
serving 53 children in Reception and 68 children in Year 1.
The programme was also part of a research study with the
University of Warwick’s Institute for Advanced Teaching and
Learning (IATL).
