In 2023-24 we supported a total of
2,909 children. 2,680 of these children
had 5+ reading sessions, making them
eligible for inclusion in data analysis.
We collected reading attainment data
at the start and end of the programme
for all 2,680. Demand from schools for
year 3 children to participate increased
again this year.
Year 1 - 1,036 (38.7%)
Year 2 - 1,144 (42.7%)
Year 1 and Year 2 - 140 (5.2%)
Year 3 - 360 (13.4%)
ON AVERAGE, PUPILS ATTENDED:
25.8
Chapter One reading
sessions, which amounts to
12.5 HOURS
of reading with their volunteers
over the course of the year. The
number of sessions that children
attended ranged from
5-48 SESSIONS
of 15+ minutes
We were able to collect pupil premium
data on 85% of participating children,
and of those 51.5% were pupil
premium (n=1171).
The pupil premium grant is funding to
improve educational outcomes for
disadvantaged pupils in state funded
schools. It is used as a proxy measure
of disadvantage.
Each morning the children come and
check to see who is reading and go
around telling each other...It's a really
special time for them to enjoy
reading with a dedicated adult oneto-one who's able to build that
relationship with them, encourage
them with their reading and play
games with them. The children make
such wonderful progress with their
reading and go away feeling really
confident and happy with how
they've done.
