PROMISING PILOTS
Expanding our Early Literacy Intervention Programme
Following promising results in our Early Literacy Intervention pilot
schools, which we began in 2022, we're expanding this programme to
reach more children and gather more impact data. Over the 2023-24
year we delivered in three primary schools in Warwickshire, Southwark
in London and East Sussex (across Reception and Year 1 classrooms).
In 2024-25 we're working with an external consultant to refine and
develop this model, so that we can ensure that it meets the needs of
schools and is financially sustainable.
By 2029 we aim to support over 700 children using ELIs.
Engaging older reluctant readers Book Club pilot
We’re always keen to take feedback from our
partner schools, and many of them have
asked us if Chapter One can expand its offer
to older reluctant readers. We’re therefore
excited to be embarking on a pilot of a new
Book Club model in January 2025 (generously
supported by three foundations, including the
Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation) which will
involve corporate volunteers in engaging book
club-style sessions for 9-10 year olds. We’re
especially pleased that the academic team
from the Open University’s Reading for
Pleasure Unit have trained our book club
facilitators and volunteers and will be
evaluating this pilot.
Growing our Global Free Library
We are continuing to develop our Global Free
Library as funding permits and our goal is to
reach 12,000 children annually by 2029.
